Learn to make a traditional Motanka doll with a festive twist

A free workshop will take place at Keighley Market on 22 December 2025, offering participants the chance to create their own Motanka doll in the form of Rudolph the Reindeer. The event runs from 11:00 to 12:30 and is open to all skill levels.

About the Motanka Doll

Motanka dolls are one of the oldest folk toys, originating from Ukrainian culture. The name “motanka” derives from the Ukrainian word meaning “to wind,” reflecting the technique used to make these dolls by winding and knotting fabric or yarn rather than sewing. Traditionally, these dolls symbolise women’s wisdom and creativity.
