Honouring a Legacy in Special Needs Education

November 2025 marks the fourth anniversary of the passing of Bori Benko, a dedicated educator known for her commitment to inclusive education for children with special needs and disabilities. Her work focused on the development and teaching of young children, with a strong belief in the benefits of inclusive learning environments.

The Bori Benko Foundation for Children

Following Bori Benko’s death in November 2021, the Bori Benko Foundation for Children was established less than a year later to continue her vision. The foundation operates in partnership with the Veresegyház Tree of Life Waldorf School in Hungary. Its aim is to increase access to inclusive education in a country where such opportunities are still limited for many children.

Bori Benko had hoped to return to her home country and apply the knowledge and experience she gained in England to support local children with special educational needs.

Current Educational Work and Support

Continuing Bori’s work, Laura Dobrocsi, a Psychopedagogy Teacher specialising in Visually Impaired Pedagogy Therapy, is currently involved with the foundation’s educational activities. She works closely with children and their families, providing tailored support through individual or small group sessions.

Her approach includes:

• Regular movement coordination exercises for first-grade children to support nervous system development and overall well-being
• Continuous assessment to develop personalised programmes for students with special educational needs

Parents have expressed gratitude for these additional educational opportunities, which align with the values and dedication demonstrated by Bori Benko.
