Industry professionals showcase tools and career paths

Construction students at Bradford College’s Trinity Green campus recently took part in a trades fair designed to provide practical insights into the construction sector. The event featured demonstrations of the latest tools and technology, with a focus on electrical and joinery trades.

Event highlights and participants

The trades fair included participation from CEF (City Electrical Factors), one of the UK’s leading wholesalers. Representatives from CEF demonstrated equipment commonly used in the construction industry, including safety gear and testing devices. This gave students an opportunity to engage directly with the tools and products they may encounter in their future careers.

Feedback from organisers and students

  • Paul Rawson, Account Manager at CEF: Described the event as a valuable opportunity to connect with prospective electricians and tradespeople. He noted the strong student interest in learning about the tools relevant to their career paths.
  • Katie Priestley, Work Experience Officer: Highlighted the growth of the event since its inception, emphasising the benefits for students in speaking directly with industry experts. Plans are underway to expand the event further and establish it as an annual fixture.
  • Student perspectives:
    • An A Level 1 Electrical Installation student expressed support for more events of this nature, noting the learning benefits and suggesting that employers return to give talks.
    • Ethan Bentley-Smith, a Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma student in Electrical Installations, described the event as insightful and an opportunity to see new equipment. He hopes to progress onto an apprenticeship and become a qualified electrician.

Future plans

Bradford College intends to continue fostering links between students and employers through events like this trades fair. By doing so, the college aims to ensure learners are well-informed about career opportunities and industry developments as they prepare to enter the workforce.
