Tuesday Portrait Group Sessions Begin in Keighley

Local artists invited to join bi-monthly portrait drawing workshops

A new opportunity for artists interested in portrait drawing will be available in Keighley, with the Tuesday Portrait Group set to meet twice a month at Keighley Creative. The sessions are designed for both beginners and established artists, providing a space to practice portrait drawing and connect with other artists.

Details of the sessions

When: First and third Tuesdays of each month, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm
Where: Keighley Creative, 3-7 Cooke Lane, Keighley, BD21 3PF
Cost: Pay as you are able on the day, with a suggested range of £10 to £15 per session
Booking: Essential; limited to 10 artists per session

The sessions include a short break around 2:45pm for tea and coffee, which is included in the cost. Participants are expected to bring their own drawing materials and paper. Suitable materials include pencils, charcoal, oil pastels, watercolour, acrylic, or gouache paints. However, pastels that create dust and oil paints are not permitted due to the public nature of the space.

Facilities and accessibility

Keighley Creative has recently acquired four new easels and eight drawing boards, donated by Bradford Senior Power, The Leap, and the Arts Council. However, there are not enough easels for all participants, so artists are advised to bring a sketchbook with a solid back as a backup.

It is important to note that the life room is located upstairs with no lift access, which may affect those with mobility issues. Plans are in place to move to a new permanent building with full accessibility in the future.
