Learn sustainable cooking techniques with Plenty at the Square

Plenty at the Square, a vegetarian café based at South Square Community Arts Centre in Thornton, is hosting a free workshop focused on winter salads and sustainable food preparation. The event will take place on 29 January 2026 at Darley Street Market in Bradford.

Workshop Details

The workshop, titled “Salad Days… Winter salads,” aims to teach participants how to use seasonal vegetables creatively while preventing food waste. Attendees will explore techniques such as preserving, pickling, and drying, using the whole vegetable to reduce waste and promote sustainability.

The session will cover:

  • Innovative methods to preserve fruit and vegetables that might otherwise be discarded
  • Recipes that utilise whole fruits and vegetables to save money and create healthy dishes
  • Insights into sustainable and seasonal cooking practices
  • Preparation of a variety of salads featuring seasonal vegetables, grains, and slaws
  • Making sweet, tangy, and spicy salad dressings to enhance flavours

Each workshop is designed to be hands-on, with participants encouraged to actively prepare dishes. Attendees will also take home jars containing preserves made during the session.
