A new play titled The Last Memory by Alan Stockdill will be performed at Skipton Little Theatre on 14 March 2026. The production centres on the experience of a man diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and his relationship with his daughter as they navigate the challenges of memory loss.
Plot and themes
The story follows Ernest, who, after struggling with worsening memory problems, receives a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. He expresses concern about losing his sense of identity, asking his daughter Lynne, “How can I go to heaven if I don’t know who I am?” In response, Ernest devises a plan for Lynne to become the keeper of his memories, preserving their shared past. The play portrays their emotional journey, highlighting moments of hope, strength, and the desire to cherish the present despite the diagnosis.
The narrative is inspired by real-life experiences and aims to present the sensitive subject of dementia with compassion. It also explores how joy and laughter can be found even in difficult circumstances.
