Event highlights collaboration between students, staff and industry partners

Bradford College’s Engineering and Motor Vehicle Department recently held an Employer Appreciation Meal, bringing together industry representatives, college staff, and students. The event aimed to acknowledge the contributions of employers who support the college’s technical education programmes and to provide an opportunity for networking and collaboration.

Industry partners recognised for their role in education

The evening served as a platform to thank employers for their involvement in enhancing the students’ learning experience. Their input ranges from offering expert advice and helping shape course content to providing real-world opportunities that prepare students for future careers.

Among those attending were representatives from various organisations, including:

  • Charlie Jerram from SkillsHouse Careers and Technical Education
  • Holly McLeod from Solenis
  • Jake Chaplin from Aston Martin
  • James Lowham from Bentley
  • Jon Wilkinson from Byworth Boilers
  • Stewart Wild from Bradford Council Fleet

Pritvir, Engineering Team Lead at the college, emphasised the importance of these partnerships in supporting students and developing the curriculum. The event also provided a networking opportunity for staff and partners, with plans to expand collaboration in the coming academic year.

Catering students manage event dining experience

In addition to recognising employer contributions, the event showcased the skills of catering students who were responsible for organising and delivering the meal. As part of a practical project, students designed a seasonal menu with a selection of starters, main courses, and desserts.

The students handled various aspects of the catering service, including:

  • Menu planning and costing
  • Team role allocation
  • Time management
  • Health, safety and food hygiene compliance

A winning menu was selected by the catering lecturer and an external chef, with the chosen team executing the service on the night. The event provided students with experience working under pressure in a live environment, demonstrating teamwork and organisation.

Andy, a catering lecturer, commented on the students’ performance, noting their commitment and professionalism throughout the assignment.

Bridging education and industry

The Employer Appreciation Evening highlighted the value of collaboration between education providers and industry partners in preparing students for their careers. By combining technical education with practical experience, the college aims to equip students with the skills and confidence needed in sectors such as engineering, motor vehicle maintenance, and catering.

Ongoing partnerships and engagement with employers remain a key focus for the college as it works to support student success and workforce development in the region.
