Local college highlights staff contributions to community volunteering

Bradford College has marked National Volunteers Week by acknowledging the efforts of its staff who volunteer both within the college and in the wider community. The college emphasises the importance of volunteering in supporting and strengthening local communities and has recognised two staff members with its Volunteer of the Year awards for 2024 and 2025.

Volunteer of the Year Award Recipients

  • Sarah, Events & Outreach Team Lead (2024 Winner): Sarah volunteers with the Scouts, where she helps provide young people with opportunities to build confidence and develop life skills. She highlighted the rewarding nature of volunteering and its role in community support.
  • Andrew, Engineering Lecturer (2025 Winner): Andrew is training part-time to become a priest with the Church of England and volunteers extensively in his local community and church. His activities include supporting individuals with disabilities and additional needs during a placement at a community church in Buttershaw and running a monthly men’s group.

College Support for Volunteering

The college supports staff volunteering by offering three days of volunteering leave annually, allowing employees to dedicate time to causes during working hours. Andrew noted the flexibility provided by the college to accommodate his volunteering commitments, including additional leave during the summer.

By recognising the contributions of staff volunteers, Bradford College continues to promote a culture of community engagement and personal development in line with its mission of transforming lives.
