The University of Bradford has entered the top 500 universities worldwide for the first time, according to the QS World University Rankings for 2027. This marks a notable advancement in the university’s international standing, reflecting improvements in several key areas including employability, research, and global engagement.

Published on 18 June 2026, the QS World University Rankings assess over 1,500 institutions across more than 100 countries. The rankings evaluate universities based on various criteria such as academic reputation, employer reputation, research impact, and international collaboration.
In the latest rankings, the University of Bradford rose 14 places to 497th globally, securing its position within the top 500 for the first time. The university also made significant progress in employability outcomes, climbing 60 places from 421st to 361st. Within the UK, Bradford maintained its position in the top 50, ranking 48th overall for the second consecutive year.

The QS ranking is part of a series of recent recognitions for the university, including:
- 8th place in the UK for Value Added (Guardian University Guide 2026)
- 1st place for social mobility in the UK for five consecutive years (Higher Education Policy Institute)
- Named University of the Year for Social Mobility by the Daily Mail in 2026
University Leadership Comments
Professor Nick Braisby, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford, described the ranking as a significant milestone that reflects sustained efforts by staff, students, and partners to enhance teaching, research, and societal impact. He emphasised that the achievement represents a positive trajectory rather than a single outcome.
Professor Sherif El-Khamisy, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Global Engagement, highlighted the importance of global rankings for prospective international students. He noted that the university’s position in the top 500 signals academic quality, strong research, and a supportive student experience.
Focus on Employability and Student Development
The university has been promoting its ‘It starts in Bradford’ campaign, which focuses on equipping students with skills and confidence for future careers. Over 80 per cent of its courses are accredited by industry bodies, reflecting a strategic emphasis on employability.
Professor Braisby stated that the university aims to embed employability throughout the student experience, drive impactful research, and foster an environment where talent from diverse backgrounds can thrive. He added that the recent ranking confirms that these efforts are gaining recognition on a global scale.
