Albion Sports in Bradford Could Be Getting a New Home Soon
January 11, 2024Albion Sports, the only club in the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League without its own playing field, has submitted plans for a new site off Lower Lane in Bradford.
If approved, the club could start playing at the new location by the beginning of the 2024/25 season.
The club, founded in 1974 as a Sunday league team, currently shares the Horsfall Stadium with Bradford (Park Avenue). The proposed move is described as a significant milestone in the club’s history, providing a permanent home for the first team and essential training facilities for youth and junior teams.
The planning application presented to Bradford Council includes provisions for a changing pavilion, turnstile entrance, first aid room, portable toilet block, manager and substitute shelters, LED floodlights, a ball-catching fence, and a 58-space car park. The changing pavilion is set to feature a lounge, kitchen, storage rooms, changing rooms with showers, toilets, and a baby changing area.
A club spokesperson expressed excitement about the upcoming milestone, noting the significance of potentially marking the club’s 50th-anniversary celebrations with a new ground. The council also acknowledged the club’s hopes for the new ground to align with the anniversary festivities.
A decision on the planning application is anticipated by the end of the month.
