School Uniform Swap Shop Launches in Holme Wood
July 27, 2024An initiative aimed at helping Bradford families to afford school uniforms has launched at the TFD Centre and Bradford South Family Hub in Holme Wood.
The Holme Wood Uniform Recycle Shop, which opened its doors on the 25th of July offers a solution for those struggling with the rising costs of school clothing.
The shop will provide an opportunity for residents to pick up second-hand uniforms or donate items they no longer need. Essential donations include polo shirts, shirts, trousers, skirts, school shoes, trainers, blazers, jumpers, and cardigans.
This community-driven service was developed following suggestions from local residents and is funded by Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Police. It has received significant support from Holme Wood Together and OutLoud, and will be operated by volunteers as a ‘swap shop’. The shop will be open at various times throughout the summer:
- 1:30-3:30 pm on Thursday, 25 July
- 1:00-3:00 pm on Thursday, 1 August
- 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, 8 August
- 3:00-5:00 pm on Thursday, 15 August
Families from the BD4 postcode area, regardless of their employment status, are welcome to use the service without needing to show proof of benefits.
Councillor Kamran Hussain, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, expressed his support:
“Unfortunately, the cost of school uniforms is difficult to meet for many families, so support like this is a very welcome resource. Thank you to those who have set this up and to the volunteers who are going to give up their spare time to help run it.”
While the availability of uniforms will vary by school, the team is committed to sourcing requested sizes or specific school uniforms where they can in order to ensure no family is left without.
The Uniform Recycle Shop has already garnered enthusiastic support and donations from residents and local organisations. Thanks are extended to all who have contributed, including Shipley Uniform Swap Shop, for their invaluable support.
