July 1, 2025Community Baton Walks to Connect All 30 Wards Across Bradford District
A series of community walks across all 30 wards of Bradford District will begin this week, featuring a specially designed baton that will be carried through each area to bring communities together.
The baton, created by students from Carlton Bolling College, will be carried by local residents who have made significant contributions to their neighbourhoods. Baton carriers are nominated by Bradford Council’s Area Offices.
Keighley and Ilkley Programme Launch
The walking programme launches in the Keighley and Ilkley constituency area with five scheduled walks:
Walk 1 – Tuesday, 1 July
- Start: Cliffe Castle Café, 10:30am
- Route: Through Keighley landmarks
- End: Keighley train station
Walk 2 – Wednesday, 2 July
- Start: Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Station, Haworth, 9:00am
- Destination: Bronte Parsonage, 12:00pm
Walk 3 – Thursday, 3 July
- Start: Sue Belcher Centre, 9:30am
- Route: Keith Thompson Community Centre, Rainbow Family Hub, Hainworth Wood Community Centre
- End: East Morton Institute
Walk 4 – Friday, 4 July
- Start: Ilkley Lido, 10:00am
- End: Cow and Calf, Ilkley
Walk 5 – Craven Ward (Date TBC)
- Start: Addingham
- Route: Through Silsden to Airedale Hospital and Airedale Centre for mental health
- Return: Silsden canal
The final handover for the Keighley and Ilkley constituency will take place at Five Rise Locks in Bingley, where the baton will be transferred to the Shipley constituency area.
Programme Details
The month-long initiative will progress through all constituency areas across Bradford District, with regular updates provided via social media and local media coverage as the baton travels between wards.
The programme will conclude with a family fun day at Odsal Stadium on Thursday, 31 July.
Official Statement
Councillor Kamran Hussain, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said:
“This is a way to bring our diverse communities together and explore the wonderful areas where we live. It also offers our residents a chance to explore new areas of the district that they may not know so well.”
They also stated:
“Thanks to everyone who has been involved in organising the walks and I would encourage people to come along and hopefully enjoy some nice weather and some of the landmarks in our beautiful district.”
