Bradford Cathedral Appeals for Support During Christmas Season
November 19, 2025Community urged to help maintain historic cathedral
As the Christmas season approaches, Bradford Cathedral has highlighted the ongoing costs involved in maintaining its Grade I listed building and called on local residents and visitors to consider supporting its upkeep. The cathedral, a longstanding centre of festive events in Bradford, relies on donations to cover daily expenses and preserve its historic fabric.
Daily costs and maintenance needs
Maintaining the cathedral requires approximately £2,850 per day. These funds contribute to ensuring the building remains weatherproof, watertight, and welcoming throughout the year. The cathedral hosts a variety of seasonal events, including carol concerts and services, which attract families and visitors from the local area and beyond.
Ways to support the cathedral
Supporters can contribute through one-off donations or by becoming regular donors, which the cathedral states provides a more sustainable source of funding. Additionally, the cathedral offers a Patron membership scheme, which includes benefits such as invitations to exclusive events. Patrons form a dedicated group committed to supporting the cathedral’s work.
- Donations can be made online via the cathedral’s website.
- Card and cash donations are accepted at donation stations within the cathedral.
- A new donation station near the cathedral entrance allows donors to add Gift Aid, increasing the value of donations by 25% for UK taxpayers at no extra cost.
- Cash or cheque donations can also be made at the cathedral office.
Contact information
Those interested in learning more about the Patron scheme or wishing to discuss donations can contact the cathedral’s Head of Fundraising, Liz Purchase, via email at liz.purchase@bradfordcathedral.org.
The cathedral has been a focal point for Christmas celebrations in Bradford for many years, and its custodians hope that continued community support will help preserve this tradition for future generations.
