Bradford Charity Hosts Summer Activities for Local Youth
October 26, 2026Community events and sports featured in holiday programme
A Bradford-based charity in the BD4 area organised a series of summer holiday activities for young people during the recent school break. The programme included community celebrations, sports, creative showcases, and outdoor events aimed at engaging local youth in a variety of experiences beyond the regular term-time sessions.
Community Summer Celebrations
Four community summer celebrations took place in Holme Wood, Bierley, Sutton, and East Bowling. These events welcomed families of young people who usually attend the charity’s term-time sessions. Activities included food, games, and socialising in outdoor settings, contributing to a week of community engagement during favourable weather.
Talent Showcase
The charity hosted a talent showcase where young participants demonstrated skills in music, art, poetry, and other creative areas. Both solo performers and groups, including some staff members, took part in the afternoon event.
Sanctuary Two-Day Event
A two-day event called ‘Sanctuary’ was organised for attendees of the Get Real programme. The first day was held in Howarth and featured a walk exploring local scenery, a barbecue, kite flying, and group games. The second day began with a cooked breakfast, followed by further walks, water-based activities, arts and crafts, and group work. The event centred around the theme ‘Belong, Known, Seen’ for 2026.
Parklife Activities
In Bowling Park, young people participated in a range of activities including daily Zumba sessions, table games, rounders, tennis, crafts, forest exploration, and daily lunches. The programme also included a barbecue and a version of Park Run organised by the charity, where participants ran or walked at least one lap of the park. Daily team motivation events were described as lively and energetic.
XSport Programme
The XSport initiative offered young people opportunities to try various sports such as football, basketball, gymnastics, cycling, boxing, and fencing. Participants received formal coaching in their chosen sport and competed in a daily mini-sports competition known as the XSport Team Challenge. The competition involved team chants, songs, flags, and colours, creating a spirited atmosphere.
The charity acknowledged support from volunteers, staff, and Bradford Council, which provided funding through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme to assist with running these activities.
These summer activities aimed to provide young people with new experiences, promote physical activity, and foster social connections within the community.
