Bradford College Supports City of Culture Volunteering Programme

Bradford College’s Adult Skills Team collaborated with the Personal Development and Enrichment Team on 25 and 26 November 2025 to support the Bradford City of Culture Volunteering Programme. The initiative aimed to promote volunteering and work experience opportunities to adult learners across West Yorkshire.
National Careers Event features dedicated volunteering stalls
During the National Careers Event, the college set up information stalls to provide guidance on volunteering for Bradford City of Culture. These stalls also featured key community partners including Bradford Hate Crime Alliance, Bradford Youth Service, Fountains Inn Church, and Locala Health Services. The event created a space for students to explore career advice and personal development options.

Workshops and induction sessions enhance volunteer readiness
Bradford City of Culture delivered a workshop titled “How to Speak Confidently in Front of a Crowd and Network Like a Pro,” which was attended by 38 Health and Social Care students across two sessions. Following the event, around 50 adult learners participated in an induction session to prepare for their volunteering roles.
Community response and ongoing volunteer recruitment
Volunteer Area Co-ordinator Danny Wahid noted a strong response from students, highlighting their enthusiasm and community spirit. Sign-ups for volunteering opportunities remain open, indicating continued growth in volunteer numbers.
College leadership on the importance of volunteering
Javier Gomez, Head of Adult Skills, emphasised the significance of the initiative, describing Bradford City of Culture as a unique event and recognising the benefits volunteering brings to learners’ confidence and employability.
This partnership between education and cultural organisations represents a step towards increasing community involvement and supporting adult learners in Bradford.
