New spaces designed to support vocational creative courses

Bradford College has completed a significant refurbishment of its Further Education (FE) Creative Arts facilities, following the relocation of FE courses from the Lister Building to the adjacent David Hockney Building. The refurbishment, which took place over the summer, involved an investment of £600,000 to improve learning environments for a range of creative programmes.

Facilities and courses affected

The refurbishment transformed several IT teaching rooms and staff areas into dedicated creative learning spaces. These are now used for FE courses including:

  • Printmaking
  • Fashion
  • Art & Design
  • Special Effects
  • Media Make-Up
  • Photography

In addition to these creative subjects, the building also houses Mac suites and classrooms for Maths and English courses.

New equipment and learning environments

The upgraded facilities feature new studio equipment such as:

  • Photography coves
  • Table-top printing presses
  • Dance mirrors and ballet bars
  • Sewing machines and fashion mannequins
  • An exhibition system for student showcases

Students have access to specialist IT equipment within bright, modern spaces designed to encourage collaboration and creativity.

Consolidation of creative FE courses

This move brings all of the college’s Creative FE learners together under one roof, following the earlier relocation of FE Music and Media students to new T Level facilities in the same building. The consolidation aims to create a centralised centre for vocational creative education at Levels 2 and 3 within Bradford.

It is noted that Higher Education courses offered by the Bradford School of Art will continue to be taught in the Lister Building.
