February 6, 2026From university studies to a career in policing
A University of Bradford law student, Eve McCallum, has progressed to the next stage of West Yorkshire Police’s two-year Police Constable Entry Programme – Detective. The 21-year-old is currently in the final year of her LLB (Hons) Law degree and balances her studies with various other commitments.
Balancing multiple roles
Eve divides her time between studying, working as a floor manager at McDonald’s in Shipley, volunteering for the Witness Service at Bradford Crown Court, and participating in the Bradford Ravens University cheerleading team. She recently passed the interview stage for the police detective programme and is preparing to complete her studies before potentially joining West Yorkshire Police.
Details of the police programme
The Police Constable Entry Programme – Detective involves an initial training phase, followed by deployment in a policing district within West Yorkshire. Participants then develop investigation skills and enter the Trainee Investigator Development Programme.
A typical week for Eve McCallum
- Monday: Day off from studying; creates content for her personal TikTok and Bradford Ravens social media accounts.
- Tuesday: Full day of university study; cheerleading training in the evening.
- Wednesday: Volunteer work at Bradford Crown Court supporting witnesses.
- Thursday: Full day of university study; cheerleading training in the evening.

Work and volunteer experience
Eve has worked at the Shipley McDonald’s since she was 16, progressing to floor manager in November 2024. In this role, she oversees the branch in the absence of the shift manager and manages up to 25 staff.
Her volunteer role at Bradford Crown Court involves supporting witnesses through the Citizens Advice Witness Service. Volunteers prepare witnesses for court appearances and provide emotional support, helping to ensure witnesses can give their best evidence.
Cheerleading commitments
As a member of the Bradford Ravens cheerleading team, Eve trains twice weekly and competes in tournaments nationwide. The sport requires significant physical fitness, including cardio and strength, as it involves complex routines such as throwing and holding team members in the air.
Future plans
Eve aims to complete her law degree and graduate in summer 2026 before joining West Yorkshire Police. She has expressed a positive view of Bradford and values the opportunities available to her at the university and in the city.
