Bradford Museums & Galleries has been honoured with the Sandford Award for Heritage Learning 2026, a distinguished accolade recognising the exceptional quality of its educational programmes and learning experiences aimed at children and young people. This award is one of the most respected in the heritage sector, celebrating outstanding achievement in heritage education across the UK.
Independent Assessment Highlights Quality and Engagement
An independent evaluation by the Heritage Education Trust praised Bradford Museums & Galleries for its curriculum-linked workshops, strong community engagement, and dedication to inspiring young learners throughout the Bradford district. Anita Fox, Lead Assessor at the Heritage Education Trust, commented on the engaging nature of the learning offers, noting their clear connections to the school curriculum and exciting themes such as the Industrial Revolution, transport, Victorian schools, World War Two Bradford, and Roman Bradford.
Fox also highlighted the innovative ‘Pupil Takeover’ session, which focuses on careers and encourages skill development and confidence among pupils by providing historical context. The exhibitions and interactive workshops were described as inspiring and instrumental in enhancing pupils’ learning experiences.

The assessment acknowledged the museum service’s role in helping pupils understand Bradford’s local heritage through a range of workshops covering topics including:
