Bradford Council is celebrating as six of its parks have once again been honoured with the prestigious Green Flag Award, marking them as some of the best green spaces in the UK.

The parks that have received this esteemed recognition include Lister Park in Manningham, Roberts Park in Saltaire, Central Park in Haworth, Harold Park in Low Moor, Peel Park in Undercliffe, and Cliffe Castle Park in Keighley. This award serves as an international quality mark for well-managed parks and green spaces, showcasing the dedication and hard work of those who maintain them.

Adding to the accolades, Cliffe Castle Park has also been awarded the Green Heritage Site Accreditation. This special recognition, supported by Historic England, highlights the park’s exceptional management of its historic features.

The Green Flag Awards, managed by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, set the benchmark for green space management across the UK and globally.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, praised the efforts of staff and volunteers, stating:

“The Green Flag awards highlight the continued dedication and hard work put in over many years by our staff and the friends of groups and volunteers to make our parks and green spaces accessible and enjoyable places for everyone.”

Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, added:

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in achieving a Green Flag Award. These parks are vital green space for the communities in the Bradford district, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that they maintain the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”

The Green Flag Award scheme is part of Keep Britain Tidy’s mission to set standards for the management of parks and beaches, inspire litter-free environments, and promote sustainable living. The awards recognise publicly accessible green spaces that meet the highest standards of management, conservation, and community involvement.

This recognition not only celebrates the beauty and functionality of Bradford’s parks but also underscores the importance of maintaining such green spaces for community well-being and environmental sustainability. The continued success of these parks is a testament to the community’s commitment to preserving and enhancing their local environment.
