Bradford Students Discuss Autumn Budget on BBC Breakfast

Local university students share views ahead of Chancellor’s announcement

On Wednesday 26 November 2025, three students from the University of Bradford took part in a live broadcast on BBC Breakfast to discuss their perspectives ahead of the Autumn Budget announcement by Chancellor Rachel Reeves. The programme was partly filmed at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford.

Student Panel on BBC One

Eve McCallum, Minahal Faisal, and Jiya Mahmood appeared as part of a studio audience on the BBC One programme. During the broadcast, they shared their thoughts on several issues relevant to students, including:

  • Increases in tuition fees
  • Experiences as a University of Bradford student ambassador
  • Part-time work while studying
  • Minimum wage rises
  • Pressures related to commuting costs and the wider cost of living

The students appeared alongside Kate Nicholls OBE, Chief Executive Officer of UKHospitality. In addition to BBC Breakfast, the three also featured live on the BBC News Channel shortly after 9:50am.

Student Reflections on the Experience

Eve McCallum, a 21-year-old third-year Law student, described the experience as “interesting and unique,” expressing satisfaction that they were able to voice their opinions on live television.

Minahal Faisal, a 20-year-old second-year Biomedical Science student, noted the diversity of participants on the programme, highlighting the range of ages involved.

Jiya Mahmood, 23, studying Forensic Science in her third year, said she found the live interview “enjoyable.”
