Ghyll Royd School will hold a community event in Ilkley later this month to mark the official launch of the 1889 Foundation, a new initiative intended to support the school’s future development and long-term plans.

The school, which was founded in Ilkley in 1889, said it is using the launch to reconnect with former pupils and staff from both its original site on Grove Road and its current home at Greystone Manor in Burley-in-Wharfedale.

The event will be hosted by Headteacher Mr Hadley Nicholson at The Craiglands Hotel on Thursday the 26th of March 2026, starting at 5:30pm.

Mr Nicholson said:

“We are thrilled to welcome our community, past and present, to join us for the launch of the 1889 Foundation. This evening provides a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with former classmates and colleagues, meet current supporters and discover the exciting plans shaping the future of Ghyll Royd School.”

According to organisers, the evening will outline the purpose of the 1889 Foundation and share information on planned developments for the school. The event includes welcome drinks, canapés and a licensed bar sponsored support from The Craiglands Hotel.

People who attended or worked at Ghyll Royd School, as well as parents, grandparents and supporters, are invited to attend.
