ILKLEY ARTS OPEN EXHIBTION 2023

August 24, 2023 Off By admin

We are really delighted to see the first Ilkley Arts Open Exhibition at the Manor House Ilkley, featuring  artists who really excel in their field, reflecting on a theme which has relevance to us all.

In the exhibition, ‘Take Time’, each artist offers their own consideration of our experience of time – the landmark moments in our lives and our aspirations for the future, as well as our sense of being in the present. The historic Manor House provides the perfect backdrop for such an exhibition.

The work, drawn from artists across the UK, has been selected by an independent panel of professional gallerists and curators with outstanding collective and individual experience, together with a couple of Ilkley residents who are engaged with the arts very much as viewers rather than practitioners.

‘Take Time’, opens in the Western Gallery at the Manor House Ilkley on 16th September 2023 (private view 2-4pm) and runs until 15th October 2023 (open weekends only from 11am to 4pm). The work on show includes photography, painting, textile work, printmaking, drawing and 3D work, with much of the work for sale.

Entry is free and there will be a free ‘Artists In Conversation’ programme featuring a number of the participating artists – no need to pre-book, just turn up:

  • Jordan Cunliffe (textile artist): 23rd September 2023
  • Hazel Roberts (screen printer): 30th September 2023
  • Lynne Chapman (textile artist): 14th October 2023

JORDAN CUNLIFFE

Jordan Cunliffe is a renowned textile artist and published writer whose work focuses on data visualisation in stitch. She uses personal data, memories and experiences and honours them by immortalising them in stitch, creating pieces which are deeply personal, yet privately encoded. She will be considering our understanding of time and  showing and talking about some of her recent work in the gallery on 23rd September at 2pm.

HAZEL ROBERTS

Hazel Roberts is a Manchester based artist who specialises in creating multi-layered complex screen prints. Her work features both geometric and painterly qualities. She challenges the perception of screen printing as a rapid process, taking many months to produce a single print. Patience, endurance and commitment are the drivers in her work. She will be in conversation in the Gallery on 30th September at 2pm.

LYNNE CHAPMAN

Lynne Chapman is an artist based in Sheffield and presents her work, ‘Ruby’, examining her relationship with time and memory. The piece explores events which the artist knows have happened over time but which she struggles to recall, prompting us all to re-consider how we negotiate time: what we recall and what melts away. Lynne will be in conversation in the gallery on 14th October at 2pm.
