Local Community Courses Support Skills and Wellbeing
March 6, 2026Bradford College highlights partnerships with local schools and community centres
Bradford College has showcased its collaboration with local community organisations as part of its ongoing outreach efforts. These partnerships aim to provide accessible learning opportunities for adults, helping them develop new skills and engage more actively in their communities.
Courses for Parents at All Saints Primary School
All Saints Primary School is offering courses designed for parents and members of the wider community. These sessions cover a range of topics including digital skills and school operations. One of the main benefits is that parents can attend classes conveniently after dropping off their children at school.
The school environment provides a familiar and supportive setting, which many participants find less intimidating. The presence of trusted staff members adds reassurance for attendees.
One participant, Vania, who is studying Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools, shared her experience. As a recently single parent, she finds the timing and location of the classes particularly helpful. She explained that attending the course at the school is easier than travelling to college, as she can come to class immediately after dropping her child off. Vania described the atmosphere as relaxed and supportive, with other parents who understand her situation.
Dressmaking Classes at Community Works
Bradford College adult students are also attending weekly dressmaking classes at Community Works, a local community centre. The group includes individuals with varying levels of English proficiency who are committed to learning new skills.
The tutor, Suraya Begum, noted that the classes help students make new friends, integrate into their communities, and contribute to their wellbeing. The sessions are held close to where the students live, making them accessible and convenient.
Two students shared their perspectives:
- Svetlana, an ESOL student, highlighted the convenience of the location and praised the quality of teaching.
- Haroon, the only male student in the group, is interested in pursuing tailoring. He values the course for providing basic sewing skills and confidence, which he hopes to build on by enrolling in a fashion course at Bradford College. He also mentioned the benefits of learning with like-minded people in an organised and affordable setting that offers accreditation.
