Media Makeup Students Showcase Skills at Bradford Event

Local students demonstrate creative talent at Bradford Live Creative Careers Event

Seven Media Makeup students from Bradford College recently participated in the Bradford Live Creative Careers Event, presenting a variety of makeup and prosthetic projects to visitors and industry professionals. The event provided an opportunity for students to display practical skills and engage with experts from the creative industries.

Creative projects on display

The students showcased a diverse range of work, including:

• A 1950s-inspired transformation featuring vintage makeup and wig styling
• An ice dragon prosthetic makeup creation with detailed prosthetic pieces
• Body painting using vibrant stencils applied to visitors throughout the day

The interactive nature of the Bradford College stand attracted significant interest from attendees, who were able to observe the creative process and view student portfolios.

Industry engagement and student development

The event was organised in collaboration with Bradford City of Culture and facilitated networking opportunities with professionals such as photographers and theatre representatives. Students received one-to-one mentoring sessions offering advice on portfolio development, career pathways, and business setup in the makeup industry.

Lisa Dawkins, course leader for Media Makeup, highlighted the value of practical demonstrations at the event, stating that seeing wigs applied and prosthetics created brings the industry to life for both students and visitors.

Student Katie Huskisson reflected on her experience creating the ice dragon prosthetic makeup live, noting the confidence boost gained from working under pressure and engaging with the public.
