Three new short documentary films focusing on mental health and stigma have been released in Bradford. They aim to share personal stories and experiences relating to mental health challenges.
Details of the Documentary Films
The films were commissioned and executive produced by Bradford 2025, working with filmmakers Pishdaad Modaressi and Matt Radcliffe. They feature a variety of contributors who share their mental health journeys, offering insight into their experiences.
- Emily – A 5-minute documentary by Pishdaad Modaressi focusing on Emily Ekong’s experiences with mental health. The film includes accounts of being sectioned and hearing voices, which may be sensitive for some viewers.
- The Search for Happiness – A 7-minute film by Pishdaad Modaressi featuring several young people discussing their mental health experiences in their own voices. The content is candid and may be emotionally challenging.
- Mental Health Engagement Programme – A 12-minute film by Matt Radcliffe documenting the Mental Health Engagement Programme that ran throughout 2025. The programme supported 361 adults living with serious mental illnesses to participate in Bradford 2025 events, including specially arranged trips and activities. It also included residencies at Lynfield Mount Hospital and Airedale Centre for Mental Health.
