A new cinema has opened at Bradford Royal Infirmary, marking the first on-site cinema of its kind in Yorkshire. The facility, located within the children’s ward, is designed to provide entertainment and comfort to children receiving treatment at the hospital.
Details of the Cinema
- The cinema opened on 27 November 2025 with a screening of the film Elf.
- It is situated on the children’s ward, which cares for patients up to 16 years old.
- The cinema has been designed to accommodate beds, wheelchairs, and medical equipment, enabling children to watch films without interrupting their care.
- The project cost approximately £40,000.
Purpose and Benefits
The cinema aims to offer children an opportunity to escape the hospital environment and enjoy a sense of normality during their stay. It is intended to support mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation among young patients.
Regular screenings will be held weekly and are free of charge for patients and their families. Private viewings will also be available for those in sensitive circumstances.
Project Partners and Support
- The cinema project was gifted and coordinated by Together for Cinema.
- Equipment installation was carried out by local company Clever Association.
- Soft play elements and a child-friendly atmosphere were created by Tigerplay.
Representatives involved in the project highlighted the importance of creating a welcoming space where children can enjoy films and feel more at ease during hospital stays.
