Daily School Closure Report: Bradford Schools Affected by Heating Issues

Several schools in Bradford are experiencing closures or partial closures due to heating system failures, affecting Key Stage 2 pupils in particular. The most significant disruption is at Thorpe Primary School, which has closed fully due to a boiler system breakdown.

Thorpe Primary School Closure

Thorpe Primary School announced a full closure on Tuesday 6 January 2026 following a failure of the entire school boiler system. The school’s premises team has been on site since early morning attempting repairs without success. Emergency plumbing engineers have been called in to resolve the issue. Further updates are expected later in the day.

Partial Closures at Other Schools

Two other Bradford primary schools have reported partial closures affecting Key Stage 2 pupils due to heating problems:

  • Hill Top CofE Primary School: The heating system for Key Stage 2 classrooms is not working, resulting in extremely cold temperatures. Key Stage 2 pupils are not attending school while repairs are awaited from Bradford Council. Nursery, Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 classes remain open as usual.
  • St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School: The Key Stage 2 heating system is broken and repairs will not be completed before the following day. Nursery, Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 pupils continue to attend as normal. Key Stage 2 children whose parents have no alternative childcare, and families experiencing financial hardship, are able to attend school despite the closure.

Advice for Parents and Guardians

Parents and guardians of affected pupils are advised to stay in contact with their respective schools for the latest updates. Schools are working to resolve heating issues as quickly as possible to minimise disruption.
