Bradford City Announce Signing of Midfielder George Lapslie
December 30, 2024Bradford City A.F.C. have confirmed the signing of midfielder George Lapslie on a two-and-a-half-year deal from Gillingham, marking the club’s first winter transfer window acquisition.
Lapslie, 26, brings a wealth of experience to the Bantams, having progressed through Charlton Athletic’s academy system and scoring on his senior debut in a 2-0 win over Crawley Town in the EFL Trophy. His career journey has included successful spells at Mansfield Town—initially on loan in 2020 before securing a permanent move in January 2021—and Gillingham, where he made over 70 appearances after joining in early 2023.
The midfielder has notched 34 career goals and is known for his energy, versatility, and competitive spirit—qualities City manager Graham Alexander is eager to integrate into the squad.
Speaking about his move to Bradford City, Lapslie expressed his excitement, saying:
“I’m absolutely buzzing, to be honest. I can’t really believe my luck to have a side this size come in for me. As soon as I knew I had a chance to get here, I just tried to grab it with both hands.”
City manager Graham Alexander echoed this enthusiasm, adding:
“We’re delighted to bring George in at the earliest opportunity so he can get up to speed with how we do things here. He will add energy, experience, and quality to our midfield. He’s versatile and a competitor, so we are really looking forward to working with him.”
Lapslie’s move to the University of Bradford Stadium will be finalized on January 1, 2025, upon the opening of the transfer window and completion of all necessary EFL clearances. He will wear the number 32 shirt and is proudly sponsored by Pickersgill Financial Planning LTD.
Fans can look forward to seeing Lapslie in action as he strengthens City’s midfield options for the second half of the season.
