January 27, 2026First Showing Outside Merseyside Scheduled for February 2026
The documentary film Framing New Brighton is set to be screened in Bradford for the first time outside its home region of Merseyside. The event will take place on 10 February 2026 at The Light Cinema, Hall Ings, Bradford, from 7:30pm to 9:00pm.
About the Documentary
Framing New Brighton offers a photographic and historical portrait of the seaside town of New Brighton, capturing its evolution and social life over several decades. The film features the work of three photographers:
- Ken Grant, known for his empathetic focus on working-class life
- Alex Hurst, who provides an intimate portrayal of the town’s streets and shoreline
- Tom Wood, whose bold and colourful images have become closely associated with Merseyside life
New Brighton was once renowned for its busy fairground, prominent landmarks, and holiday crowds. The documentary explores the town’s contrasts, from the lively nights at the Chelsea Reach nightclub in the 1980s to quieter moments such as Sunday strolls along the promenade. It combines candid interviews, photography, and archive footage to illustrate the place and the perspectives of those who have documented its history.
