Celebrating local life through photography and community events

An exhibition showcasing the work of press photographer Bob Smith, who has documented Keighley life for over 30 years, is set to launch on Saturday 21 March 2026. The event, titled K-Town People, aims to present a portrait of Keighley in 2025 through a collection of photographs and community activities.

Exhibition and Launch Details

The launch will take place from 12:00 to 16:00 at Keighley Creative, located at 3–7 Cooke Lane, Keighley, BD21 3PF. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Bob Smith and view a film loop featuring projects such as Our Patch and other Keighley Creative initiatives in the Stockroom Cinema.

Family-Friendly Workshops and Performances

Alongside the exhibition, a free, family-friendly workshop will be held at the Airedale Shopping Centre Events & Piano Space (BD21 3QQ) from 12:00 to 15:00. Attendees can participate in activities including zine making and Polaroid photography to create their own mini versions of the K-Town People newspaper. The workshop is designed to be accessible for all ages and abilities, with children required to be accompanied by an adult. The artists leading these sessions are Lauren Kelly and Adriana Szczerepa.

From 15:00 to 16:00, the Keighley Chorus will perform at the same venue. The choir, led by Hannah Butterfield and featuring international pianist and vocalist Shane Durrant, welcomes all voices, with no prior singing experience necessary.

Additional Activities and Exhibition Opening Times

  • Walkabout acts will take place throughout the day from 12:00 to 16:00, with newspaper callers sharing local stories and distributing copies of the K-Town People newspaper around the town.
  • The exhibition will remain open at Keighley Creative on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 March from 12:00 to 16:00, with an additional evening opening on Wednesday 25 March from 17:00 to 19:00.

Venue and Admission

The main venues for the event are Keighley Creative and Airedale Shopping Centre, both located in Keighley. Admission to all events and workshops is free, and there is no age restriction.

This exhibition forms part of the official City of Culture 2025 events and highlights the importance of northern and working-class voices in the cultural landscape. Bob Smith’s photographs aim to provide an authentic representation of Keighley life, countering its historical underrepresentation in national media.
