New show explores the impact of Black-origin music in Bradford

A new performance titled Love. Unite. Freedom. is set to take place in Bradford on 22 November 2025, offering an exploration of the cultural and musical legacy of the Windrush generation and its lasting influence on the city.

The event will be held at the Loading Bay venue, located at 1 Duke Street, Bradford, BD1 3QR, from 9pm to 10.15pm. It is part of the Bradford 2025 Artist Award projects and has been developed through community conversations, research, and lived experiences.

Celebrating musical heritage and community stories

The performance traces the evolution of Black-origin music from reggae and rocksteady, which were carried by the Windrush generation, through to later genres such as lovers rock, jungle, garage, drum & bass, and grime. It aims to highlight how these musical styles continue to shape contemporary sounds and society.

The show blends verbatim voices, live music, and new writing to explore themes of love, unity, freedom, and connection across generations. It is designed to celebrate resilience, influence, and creativity within the community.
