An artist-led walk titled Mona and the Moths is set to take place in Bradford on 23 January 2026. The event will offer participants an opportunity to explore the historical connections of the Wapping area through the personal stories of artist Naseem Darbey’s family.

  • Starting Point: The Corn Dolly, 110 Bolton Road, Bradford, BD1 4DE
  • Duration: Approximately 30 minutes

About the Walk

The walk begins at The Corn Dolly, one of Bradford’s oldest surviving pubs, historically frequented by residents of the former Wapping neighbourhood. From there, Naseem Darbey will lead participants along a route crossing Canal Road and towards the remnants of Wapping.

Key stops include the site of Darbey’s great-aunt Mona’s birth at 4 Wild Boar Street, located opposite the old Wapping Road School. Throughout the walk, Darbey will share stories and insights gathered from her research into the area and its people, highlighting small histories that are often absent from official records.

Conclusion and Exhibition

The walk concludes back at The Corn Dolly, where attendees will have the option to remain and view an interactive textile sculpture created by Naseem Darbey. The sculpture is inspired by “midden finds” and traces of domestic life uncovered during the artist’s research.

Additional Information

The event is open to all and aims to provide a gentle and informative exploration of Bradford’s local history through an artistic lens. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance.
