Learn historic letter writing techniques ahead of Valentine’s Day

A Regency letter writing workshop is scheduled to take place at the Bronte Birthplace in Thornton on 11 February 2026. The event offers participants the chance to explore the art of letter writing as it was practised in the early 19th century, using traditional materials and methods.

The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to the history of letter writing during the Regency period. Participants will then have the opportunity to practise writing with a traditional quill and ink, before creating their own letter. Attendees will also learn how to fold their letters in the authentic Regency style.

As part of the experience, each participant will seal their letter with wax using a special Be More Brontë stamp, which they will be able to keep as a memento. All writing materials, including quill, ink, paper, and wax, will be provided, along with refreshments.
