Interactive event to highlight achievements of Bradford women

An event titled Brilliant Bradford Lasses will take place on Friday, 6 March 2026, at Ilkley Manor House, aiming to celebrate the contributions of women and girls from Bradford across three centuries. The talk is scheduled from 5pm to 6:30pm and will mark International Women’s Day by showcasing notable figures from the 19th to the 21st century.

The session will feature a range of women including writers, explorers, sportswomen, nurses, poets, trade unionists, and a university chancellor, among others. It will cover individuals who have achieved significant “firsts” in their fields, encompassing both well-known personalities and those whose stories have been less widely recognised. Contemporary changemakers from Bradford will also be included.

Event format and presentation

The talk will begin with an introductory game designed to engage the audience. The main presentation will be delivered by Mrs Norton, portrayed by Irene Lofthouse, who will appear in full suffragette costume. Mrs Norton will guide attendees through hidden stories and forgotten names of Bradford’s women, as well as spotlight modern-day figures.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to nominate their own “Brilliant Bradford Lasses” during the event, encouraging community participation and recognition of local women’s achievements.
