Bradford College Partners in Manufacturing Week on Clean Energy
October 22, 2025Students explore hydrogen fuel cell technology during Bradford Manufacturing Week
Bradford College participated in this year’s Bradford Manufacturing Week, an event aimed at promoting careers in manufacturing within the region. As part of the programme, the college collaborated with Ilkley Grammar School to deliver an educational workshop focused on sustainability, clean energy, and emerging technologies.
Hands-on workshop on green technology
During the week, students from Ilkley Grammar School joined Bradford College students for a practical session centred on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The workshop provided an opportunity to develop STEM skills and enhance understanding of clean energy’s potential impact on future transportation and energy use.
The key activity involved students designing and constructing miniature hydrogen-powered cars. Using actual hydrogen fuel cells, participants explored the mechanics and possibilities of this technology, which is considered a promising solution for reducing carbon emissions in transport.
Educational and community objectives
- The initiative aimed to inspire young people to consider careers in engineering, science, and green technology.
- It aligned with Bradford College’s commitment to environmental responsibility and preparing students for future workforce challenges.
- The collaboration provided direct engagement with advanced technology and industry-relevant experiences.
Stephen Smith, Head of Engineering and Motor Vehicle at Bradford College, commented on the event: “We are proud to support Bradford Manufacturing Week again. This initiative supports our mission to transform lives by inspiring the next generation of engineers through education and real industry experiences. Hosting school activities on our campus allows young people to interact with cutting-edge technology and understand career opportunities in engineering and manufacturing.”
Collaboration for a sustainable future
The partnership between Bradford College, Ilkley Grammar School, and Bradford Manufacturing Week reflects a shared goal of equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to contribute to a cleaner and greener future. The event highlights the role of education in fostering innovation and sustainability within the local manufacturing sector.
