Dean Andy Bowerman announces departure from Bradford Cathedral

The Very Revd Andy Bowerman, Dean of Bradford, has announced that he will be leaving his position to take up a new role in Australia. After a period of prayer and reflection, he has accepted an invitation to become the first Head of Faith & Community at CREST Education, a Christian education network based in Melbourne.

New role and responsibilities

CREST Education comprises a group of schools in Melbourne with approximately 3,500 students and staff. In his new role, Dean Bowerman will be responsible for developing and strengthening the Christian ethos across the network. His duties will include:

  • Leading spiritual formation, chaplaincy, and discipleship initiatives
  • Ensuring that faith is integrated into all aspects of learning and community life
  • Building partnerships with local churches, other schools, and Christian organisations in the region

Additionally, he will support the mission of the Diocese of Melbourne and hold a non-executive position with the Anglican Board of Mission (ABM), which is Australia’s oldest mission agency.

Farewell and transition

Dean Bowerman expressed that it will be difficult to say farewell to the Bradford Cathedral community and colleagues in the wider Diocese. He conveyed gratitude for the support and prayers received during his tenure. He and his wife Ali are preparing for the transition with a sense of gratitude and hope for the future.

Their final Sunday at Bradford Cathedral will be on 18 January 2026, during the morning Eucharist service. Further details about the transition will be shared in due course.
