Bank of England Discusses Careers with Bradford College Students
May 11, 2026Insight into digital banking and cybersecurity shared with local IT students
Students at Bradford College recently had the opportunity to learn about career prospects in banking, cybersecurity, and digital payments during a session hosted by the Bank of England. The event aimed to provide an understanding of the evolving financial technology landscape and the expanding role of the Bank in the Yorkshire region.
Visit by Bank of England Policy Analyst
Nicolas Policarpo, a Policy Analyst from the Bank of Englandās digital and payments team, visited Bradford College to speak with IT students. He discussed the technologies behind the UKās banking infrastructure, the regulation of payment systems, and the increasing significance of cybersecurity in financial services.
During the session, students explored how the Bank of England operates and regulates payment technologies across the UK. They also learned about the career opportunities emerging as the Bank grows its presence in Yorkshire, notably through its Leeds office and planned future operations in West Yorkshire.
Encouraging Diverse Career Paths
Mr Policarpo highlighted the Bankās motivation to expand outside London to engage with talent across the country, including in Yorkshire. He emphasised that career opportunities with the Bank of England are available locally, not just in the capital.
He also encouraged students to consider a broad range of skills and backgrounds, noting that many roles at the Bank welcome diverse experiences beyond traditional finance qualifications. Mr Policarpo shared that he himself did not come from a conventional finance background but has developed a career by applying and acquiring new skills.
College Perspective and Industry Collaboration
Rashad Ayub, an IT tutor at Bradford College, said the visit was valuable for students to hear directly from a leading financial institution about real-world applications of cybersecurity and digital infrastructure. He added that such sessions help connect classroom learning with practical career opportunities in West Yorkshire.
The visit is part of Bradford Collegeās ongoing efforts to build partnerships with employers, providing students with access to industry expertise and potential employment pathways.
