University climbs national rankings with strong subject performances

The University of Bradford has improved its position in the Complete University Guide 2027, rising nine places overall to 98th in the UK. Notably, its optometry course has been ranked second nationally and first in the Yorkshire and the Humber region, reflecting the institution’s growing reputation in eye and vision science education and research.

Subject Rankings Highlight Quality Education

Bradford’s optometry provision, covering Optometry, Ophthalmics, and Orthoptics, is now recognised as one of the best in the country. The university has also achieved a top 10 ranking for Counselling, Psychotherapy, and Occupational Therapy, coming ninth in the UK and first in its region. These rankings indicate strong academic performance across multiple professional disciplines.

Research and Innovation in Vision Science

The university’s research in optometry and vision science has contributed to its elevated status. Recent projects include pioneering studies aimed at slowing the progression of short-sightedness in young adults, as well as securing significant funding to develop advanced retina scanning technologies for improved glaucoma detection. These initiatives underline Bradford’s role in advancing practical and impactful vision research.

Graduate Employability and Social Mobility

Alongside academic achievements, the University of Bradford continues to be recognised for graduate employability and social mobility. It has been named the number one university in England for social mobility for the fifth consecutive year by the Higher Education Policy Unit. Additionally, it ranks in the UK top 20 for highly skilled graduate employment, according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
