About the artists
Rachel Davis and Darren McMullen are known for their dynamic musical partnership, combining vocals and a variety of instruments including fiddles, guitar, banjo, mandolin, viola, bouzouki, and whistles. Their music merges driving rhythms with haunting melodies, drawing on Celtic traditions while incorporating modern folk elements.
Both artists have extensive experience as members of the Cape Breton Celtic supergroup Còig, with over ten years of international touring and recording. Their collaborative project, Home, has received critical recognition, winning the 2024 Music Nova Scotia Award for Roots/Traditional Recording of the Year and earning nominations from the Canadian Folk Music Awards and the East Coast Music Awards.
Rachel Davis has been awarded the Canadian Folk Music Award for Traditional Singer of the Year in 2020, noted for her emotive fiddle playing and expressive voice. Darren McMullen is a respected multi-instrumentalist known for his musical versatility and rhythmic contributions to their sound. Together, they have performed across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Belgium, and Australia.
