Local Foodbank Supports Community Beyond Food Aid
September 1, 2026A story of recovery and support from Bradford Central Foodbank
Bradford Central Foodbank has shared the story of Nathaniel, a local individual who found more than just food assistance at the centre. His experience highlights the wider role that foodbanks can play in supporting people facing hardship.
Nathaniel’s experience
Two years ago, Nathaniel arrived at the foodbank during a difficult period marked by anxiety and depression. Alongside receiving food supplies, he engaged with the foodbank’s volunteering opportunities. Nathaniel describes the foodbank as providing not only practical help but also a supportive community that helped him regain confidence and develop new skills.
Through volunteering, Nathaniel gained work-related experience and learned about UK culture, which contributed to his personal development. The foodbank also offered job coaching services, assisting him in his search for employment. Eventually, Nathaniel secured a full-time job and credits the foodbank’s support as instrumental in his journey towards stability and wellbeing.
