Explore wearable technology and stage performance on 26 September

The National Science and Media Museum in Bradford is hosting an event titled Design and Shine on Saturday, 26 September 2026. Running from 10:00 to 17:00, the event offers visitors the opportunity to explore the intersection of light, materials, and movement in performance costumes and wearable technology.

Event Activities and Highlights

The event features a range of interactive activities suitable for families and visitors of all ages:

• Design your own wearable tech: From 25 September to 17 October, and on selected Saturdays in November (7, 14, and 28), visitors can drop in between 10:00 and 16:00 at MakeSpace on Level 4. Here, participants can build simple electronic circuits and create light-up wristbands to take home. The activity also includes exploring how light interacts with different fabrics and designing stage costumes inspired by Eurovision. This is suitable for children aged 5 and above, with additional activities for younger children.
• Pop Academy dress up and photo opportunity: Daily from 10:00 to 17:00 in the museum foyer (Level 0), visitors can dress up in Eurovision-themed costumes and take photos with their light-up wristbands.
• Setting the Stage: The game show: Running on Saturdays until 28 November, this interactive game show allows families to compete by testing their knowledge of the technology behind the Eurovision Song Contest over the last 70 years. Timings vary, and visitors are advised to check on arrival or ask staff for details.
• Pop Academy trail: A self-guided trail available daily, inviting visitors to learn about what it takes to be a pop star by exploring the museum.
