March Of The Day: Over 600 Bantams Set To March On Anfield
March 18, 2024More than 600 supporters and staff of Bradford City AFC are set to undertake a gruelling 175-mile walk from the University of Bradford Stadium to Anfield, Liverpool.
The three-day event, which has been dubbed “March Of The Day”, starts on the morning of Friday, March 22. The event has been organised to raise funds and awareness for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, which focuses on the fight against motor neurone disease (MND).
The march honours two footballers currently living with MND: Stephen Darby, a celebrated figure at Bradford City AFC, and Marcus Stewart, the former Huddersfield Town forward. Participants will journey across England, visiting 17 football stadiums before reaching their final destination at Liverpool FC on Sunday, March 24.
The University of Bradford Stadium will open early to supporters wishing to cheer on the participants. The event will begin with fanfare at The Morrisons Family Stand, with entry from the WD Media Gate on Valley Parade. The morning send-off is expected to create a memorable scene of community support and solidarity.
The initiative also includes opportunities for supporters to engage directly with the cause. With a donation of £15 or more, supporters can have personalised messages displayed on the electronic scoreboard at Valley Parade. Those wishing to send a message are encouraged to e-mail: hello@bradfordcityafc.com to make arrangements. All proceeds will go directly to the club’s JustGiving page for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.
Notable figures from the club, including former players Filipe Morais, James Hanson, and Billy Clarke, as well as current coaching staff members like manager Graham Alexander, will be participating in the walk. Their involvement highlights the club’s collective commitment to supporting those affected by MND.
