Fireflies at Dawn Comes to Alhambra Studios

Dancers with visual impairments will take to the stage at Alhambra Studios this June to perform “Fireflies at Dawn”, a unique show based on the lived experiences of the blind and visually impaired.

“Fireflies at Dawn” is described as a journey into the depths of sensory perception and emotional connectivity, designed to illuminate the lived experiences of blind and visually impaired individuals. Through a blend of sound, motion, and innovative technology, the piece seeks to challenge and expand audience perceptions of dance and movement.

The performance integrates a mix of visually impaired and sighted dancers, highlighting the company’s ongoing exploration into the reasons behind and methods of human movement. Notably, the show incorporates embedded audio descriptions, a variety of lighting effects, tactile elements, and the use of a new wearable technology named “echome“. This technology is said to enhance the perception of movement for both performers and the audience, aiming to create a more inclusive and immersive experience.

This unique event takes place on Tuesday, 11th June at 7:30 pm, hosted at The Alhambra Studios and adopts a ‘Pay What You Decide’ approach for ticketing, inviting attendees to contribute an amount of their choosing. In addition to the performance, the event will feature a question-and-answer session, offering insight into the creation process and themes of the show. The performance itself is set to last approximately one hour, with no intermission, and is recommended for audiences aged 12 and above due to its thematic exploration of mental health and disability challenges.
