Last Minute Winner Sees Eccleshill Progress In The FA Cup
August 8, 2024Eccleshill United secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Vauxhall Motors in their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Replay held at the Servo Group Stadium on Wednesday.
The win sees Eccleshill advance to the Preliminary Round, joining fellow Bradford side Campion AFC, who defeated Parkgate on Saturday, and Bradford (Park Avenue), who enter the competition at this stage.
Match Report:
Following a one-all draw at their previous outing, the match began with an electrifying pace. In just the 3rd minute, Harvey Booth put the hosts ahead with an early goal, setting the tone for a competitive game. Vauxhall Motors responded with a strong offensive, with Connor Rankin almost equalising in the 14th minute, only to be denied by a fine save from the Eccleshill keeper. Rankin had another opportunity in the 25th minute, but his lob narrowly missed the target.
Eccleshill had a chance to double their lead in the 38th minute when Booth found himself one-on-one with Vauxhall’s goalkeeper Jack Atkinson, but he failed to convert. Just before half-time, Vauxhall Motors were awarded a penalty, which Ben Holmes successfully converted, levelling the score at 1-1.
The second half saw Vauxhall Motors take the lead in the 45th minute, thanks to a goal from Connor Rankin. Eccleshill were relentless in their pursuit of an equaliser, hitting the post in the 54th minute.
Eccleshill’s persistence paid off in the 76th minute when Josh McKieron scored, bringing the score to 2-2. The decisive moment came in the 89th minute when Talent Ndlovu netted the winning goal for Eccleshill, securing a 3-2 victory.
The final whistle confirmed Eccleshill’s progression in the FA Cup, much to the delight of the home fans.
Eccleshill’s next challenge will be in the Northern Counties East Premier Division against Tadcaster Albion, scheduled for the 10th of August at 3pm at the Servo Group Stadium.
