Avenue Secures Ex-City Striker James Hanson in Surprise Return from Retirement

In a striking development for the non-league outfit, Bradford (Park Avenue) has announced the signing of former Bradford City striker James Hanson, who comes out of retirement to help in the club’s relegation battle.

Hanson, whose illustrious career at City included over 300 appearances and 91 goals, joins Park Avenue immediately, poised to contribute to the team’s efforts for the remainder of the season.

Hanson’s return to football is set against the backdrop of his significant legacy at Bradford City, where he became a fan favourite during an eight-year tenure that saw him play a pivotal role in the team’s offensive line-up. His career, extending over 17 years, showcases stints at various clubs across the English football leagues, including notable teams such as Sheffield United, Bury, AFC Wimbledon, and Grimsby Town, amongst others. With more than 536 appearances and 142 goals to his name, Hanson brings a treasure trove of experience to Park Avenue’s current squad, managed by Danny Whitaker.

On the signing, Hanson expressed enthusiasm about joining Park Avenue, emphasising the opportunity to contribute to the team’s battle against relegation. “Really happy to come and help my local team in their bid to avoid relegation,” he said. “It’s on my doorstep and a team full of young lads so my experience will definitely help them.”
