Shipley College is calling on local businesses to support its students by offering valuable work experience placements.

Shipley College T-levels

This comes as part of the college’s commitment to providing practical learning opportunities for students enrolled in various courses, including Business, Care, and Digital.

Work experience is a crucial component of the educational journey for many Shipley College students. Those enrolled in T-Level courses are required to complete 315 hours of industry placement, while students on other courses need to fulfil 40 hours. These placements are designed to offer students an immersive experience in their chosen fields, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.

T-Levels, an alternative to traditional A-Levels, apprenticeships, and other post-16 education routes, focus on vocational skills that prepare students for skilled employment, further study, or apprenticeships. These courses are equivalent in size to three A-Levels and are structured to include a significant industry placement. T-Level students spend 80% of their time in the classroom, acquiring the skills that employers seek, and the remaining 20% in a meaningful industry placement where these skills are put into practice.

For businesses, offering work experience placements is an opportunity to engage with the next generation of professionals at no cost. Employers can benefit by assessing potential future employees, gaining early access to emerging talent, and fulfilling their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives. The college emphasises that these placements allow companies to support the local community by nurturing the skills and potential of young people in the area.

Shipley College is encouraging local businesses across various sectors to participate in this initiative. By providing work experience placements, companies can contribute to the professional growth of students while also benefiting from the fresh perspectives and energy that young people bring to the workplace.
