Word on the Street

May 9, 2022 Off By admin

A lot of things get said about Bradford… Now it’s time for our own words to be heard. In partnership with People Powered Press, quotes from local poets, school children, residents, writers and rappers will pop up across the district this Spring.

The large-scale installations have been designed by local designers Oli Bentley (Split) and Adam Greasley (Oakfold Design). The murals use the typeface Graft, originally designed for the world-record holding printing press, the People Powered Press, based in Saltaire.  Words were applied to the street using eco-friendly paint using specially made giant stencils.

I COME FROM HOPE, I COME FROM BRADFORD

Iqra Khan, Belle Vue Girls Academy

Using poetry to amplify young people’s unique voices is very important to Belle Vue Girl’s Academy. Iqra and her class used the version of ‘I come from…’ by Leeds Young Authors as inspiration for powerful and personal poems about their home city of Bradford.
