Bradford City A.F.C. have confirmed the loan signing of Burnley striker Michael Mellon, who joins the Bantams until the end of the 2024/25 season.

The 21-year-old forward brings proven goal-scoring pedigree, having impressed during a loan spell at Morecambe last season. Mellon netted 15 goals in 27 appearances for the Shrimps, including a standout hat-trick in a 4-1 victory over Wimbledon. His performances earned a mid-season recall to Burnley before a subsequent loan move to Scottish Premiership side Dundee.

Across his professional career, Mellon has made 53 senior appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing six assists. A former Manchester United academy player, he joined Burnley’s youth setup at under-16 level, where he continued his development into a promising young talent.

After completing his move to the University of Bradford Stadium, Mellon expressed his excitement:

“I am delighted to be here. The atmosphere at the University of Bradford Stadium is amazing, and I could not turn down the opportunity to come here. I cannot wait to get out there playing, and it is something I am buzzing to be a part of.”

City manager Graham Alexander highlighted Mellon’s attributes and potential impact on the team, saying:

“Bringing Michael on board at this moment is a great boost for us. He is a proven goal-scorer at this level, and we believe he will fit in seamlessly with the group and our style of play. He is excited by the challenge, and I am sure he will show everyone the quality he has.”

Mellon will wear the number 26 shirt during his time with Bradford City and is sponsored by Metaltech. His move is subject to the completion of all necessary EFL clearances.

Fans can look forward to seeing Mellon lead the line for the Bantams alongside City’s other recent signing, George Lapslie, as they push for success in the second half of the season.
