Experienced defender returns to West Yorkshire for short-term spell

Bradford (Park Avenue) AFC have secured the services of experienced centre-back Yann Songo’o on a short-term loan from Hyde United. The 34-year-old defender, who has a history of playing in the English Football League (EFL), will strengthen the squad during a crucial period of the season.

Career Overview

Born in Toulon, France, Songo’o began his football career in Spain with Real Zaragoza and Sabadell before moving to the United States, where he featured for Sporting Kansas City and Orlando City. He later returned to the UK, signing for Blackburn Rovers and spending time on loan at Scottish club Ross County.

Songo’o then joined Plymouth Argyle, making over 120 appearances and following manager Derek Adams to the club. In 2019, he moved to Scunthorpe United for a season before Adams signed him for Morecambe. At Morecambe, Songo’o was part of the squad that achieved promotion to League One. Following Adams’ move to Bradford City in 2021, Songo’o also joined Valley Parade, making over 50 appearances.

After a loan spell at Walsall and a return to Morecambe for the 2023-24 season, where he made over 100 appearances, Songo’o was released at the end of the 2025-26 season. He then joined Hyde United ahead of the 2026-27 season, making several appearances before moving on loan to Bradford (Park Avenue).

Manager and Player Comments

Bradford (Park Avenue) manager Craig Elliott commented on the signing, highlighting the need for experience in the squad due to injuries and suspensions: “We were made aware a few weeks ago that Yann could be available. With the current challenges, we acted quickly to make it happen. He will bring vital experience and aggression, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Songo’o expressed his enthusiasm about joining the club: “I’m really pleased to be joining Bradford (Park Avenue). I’m looking forward to getting started and helping the team as much as I can. I can’t wait to meet the squad, staff and supporters.”

The club and supporters will be hoping that Songo’o’s experience proves valuable during his time at Horsfall Stadium.
