Mixed Fortunes For Bradford Sides In FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
August 3, 2024It’s been a weekend of highs and lows for three of Bradford’s non-league clubs as they competed in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.
Bradford’s Albion Sports, Campion AFC and Eccleshill United were all involved in this earliest stage of the FA Cup, with each side hoping to progress and make their mark on the competition.
Albion Sports vs Trafford FC
Friday night saw Albion Sports face Trafford FC at home in a match that tested their mettle. The visitors took a commanding lead in the first half, netting two goals that left Albion Sports with an uphill battle. Despite a spirited second-half performance, Albion could only muster a consolation goal. Substitute Sumaili Cisse converted an 85th-minute penalty, but it was too little too late as Trafford FC secured a 2-1 victory. Albion Sports’ efforts were commendable, but they ultimately fell short of turning the game around.
Campion AFC vs Parkgate FC
Saturday brought better news for Bradford’s Campion AFC, who hosted Parkgate FC. In a tightly contested match, both teams struggled to break the deadlock. However, it was Aidan Kirby who emerged as the hero for Campion. With just four minutes remaining on the clock, Kirby found the back of the net in the 86th minute, securing a dramatic 1-0 victory for his team and ensuring Campion’s progression to the preliminary round.
Vauxhall Motors vs Eccleshill United
Eccleshill United faced a challenging away fixture against Vauxhall Motors. The match saw Eccleshill take the lead in the first half, raising hopes of an outright victory. However, the hosts equalised in the second half, and could have taken the lead after being awarded a penalty in the 77th minute. The chance was missed however, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Eccleshill will now play host when the match is re-played at the Servo Group Stadium (BD2 1PN) on Wednesday the 7th of August.
